Almost over

Hi guys,
It is Tuesday 8th at 9pm over here and we are getting ready to head home (YAY ...I miss the kids...If they were here we might never have come back...LOL)

We have been staying at Ben and Ann's the last coupleof days and have been gallivanting all over the place. Yesterday we went up into the Sequoia National Park. IT was beautiful. We have found a couple of western wear shops and got our selves some new gear.

I have somehow managed to lose 2 days of photos from my laptop...All the ones from Yellowstone and the bears etc. I am hoping that someone can recover them from where they are hiding on hte hard drive. I think they were trashed but dont know. The file wass still on the CD but no pics... so if anyone knows a great tech that can recover them it would be fantastic...(I cried when I realised that I had lost them).
I have also had a couple of the camera disks crash but I was able after much fiddling to recover those pics.

We have had a great time over here except for not having access to the kids and therefore their mother got a little crazy (well crazier...LOL) and often. Mal will be glad for me to see them then he can tell me to stop worrying and fussing...

No pics today as I only have short access to the net but just wanted to update you all...

See you soon we will be home friday 12th... flying in at 9ish am and Mark is picking us up and taking us home so should be home by just after lunch...

Thank you to all the wonderful people that we have met on this trip... Bunny, Kayo, Ann, Ben, Zoeann, Jeff, Debbie, Dave, Brian, Kenny, Gerry, Kim, Hannah, Abbey, Kyle, and anyone else I have forgtten...(it is not deliberate I'm just getting more senile everyday.)

Thanks to all our family and friends who have travelled the sometimes crazy journey as we have zipped across thru and over so many amazing places.

Thanks Deb for looking after the girls ...I hope you are getting better. Thanks Mat for keeping Amie and Tor in line...

See you guys really soon...
Miss you HEaps Love you more

Off to Washington

We stayed in Albany last night after missing Debbie and Dave by a couple of days (that was sad cause I dont know if I will be able to see them again). This morning we headed off to Portland to drop Mark at the airport. We had a difficult (that wasnt the first word I thought of...LOL) time finding parking but finally got there. We left Mark there and headed off with tears flowing for Carol and myself. We will miss him greatly. It has been interesting having him along as his sense of wonder made me take a closer look at a lot of things I may have overlooked. I thank him for that.

We headed ack into portland and had a drive around the city centre and parts of the old town. It is very pretty there.

Next we headed over the river and into Washngton. We started up the I 5 and almost got wiped out by a speeding car that was flying in and out of traffic. Then a police car came after him. We then went up hwy 4 and ended up in Long Island (Washington). We had dinner at a place called the crab pot. As soon as you went in you could smell the fish and other sea food. Mal had chowder and I had steak (yeah I know...) Tony and Carol had fisherman's plates. It was the most expensive dinner that we have had inthe whole time we have been over here.

In the mid west the prices of eating out are very reasonable and the 5 of u could have dinner for less than $40.00 including drinks and the tip. In Walldrug (SD) you could have a cup of coffee for 5 cents. And when you buy a cup of coffee in the diners or resturants they just continue to fill it over and over til you say no more. On the other hand they dont make very good tea over here. Most of the time we are delivered a pot of hot tap water so the cuppa is cold before we start. We found one place called the Tom Tom in Albany in our first few days which we visited again yeaterday and they make the best cuppas Ive had while here. They also make the best banana splits. Not as good as mine.

On our drive throught the poring rain and wind into Washington we saw some more pretty scenery but it was difficult to take photos whilst driving with rain on the windows. Tonight we are staying at a super 8 motel and they have literatue warning of Tsunami and earthquake. That really instills confidence too...lol... this is also the MOST expensive place we have stayed too. We have stayed at other super8s around the place but usually at half or less the cost of a room tonight.

Anyway I will get out of the way for tonight. It may be a few days before I can get online again as we are hoping to be camping in state parks until we get to California and stay with Ben and Anne for a couple of days and I will have to wait for internet access again.

Love you all miss you more.

Dinner menu

This is the local cafe in Meacham Oregon. The PResident of the United States used this building in the 1870s to sign some type of paper work. The people were really friendly. I liked the general area here. Could probably put up with the snow for the friendly neighbours.

The info to go with the millions of pics

From mountain home we travelled through Idaho and back into Oregon. We camped for two nights in a beautiful state Forrest called Emigrant Springs State Park. Everywhere you looked there was a squirrel running about! They even dropped off the trees onto our tent then to the ground. They are funny to watch. We took some long walks and went to a place called Meacham for breakfast yesterday. It was a pretty little place with lots of history. It was “The White House” for one day back in the 1870’s when the President of the time sighed some sort of documents there. We had breaky in the building that it happened in.

We went and had a look around Pendleton and found out that if we had done the trip in reverse that we would have been there in time for the Pendleton round up, the biggest rodeo in the country. We missed it buy 10 days. Had a look at the cowboy hall of fame! Had some great stuff.

We went out to the Umatilla Reservation and I spoke to some of the Elders. They don’t have any teaching jobs open at the moment but told me to keep checking in. they asked me to apply for a juvenile social justice job but I think it is out of my league. I have the apps and I will think about it. We are supposed to be going to the state office to register for a teaching licence tomorrow.

Tonight we have rolled into Albany through a rain storm but it has cleared now. We have settled in for the afternoon as Debbie and Dave have gone away for a week and as we didn’t have internet we didn’t know til we got here. Instead we have vegged all afternoon, done the washing and watched some tv. We had pizza to give Mark a send off for tomorrow.

We are supposed to be leaving here at 8 in the morning. I don’t know when we will have internet service again. We will see you soon just 2 weeks.

More pics uploaded today too… hope you enjoy…Lot & Lots& Lots of pics…lol
